I would like to register my objection to the omnibus bill 66, because of its disregard for the environmental safeguards that are currently in place. I object to the underhanded manor in which the government states that the Green Belt Plan will not be affected, yet in the small print, developers do not need to abide by that Plan or the Clean Water Act or the Planning Act.
Our province does need economic growth, but not at the expense of the water, land and forests. We need sustainable growth not an easy way out, by allowing our agricultural land, woodlands and watershed to be raped. Developers and dishonest politicians are eager to sell their souls to make a dollar as long as their lives are not jeopardized.
I live in Hamilton and have been so impressed with the brown fields that have been developed since the Green Belt Plan was instituted. The sprawl has been contained, density has improved and we have wonderful conservation and agricultural lands. Let's learn from Europe,where land has always been scarce. Keep the core of our cities vibrant .
Most of all stop the underhanded, sneaky way of introducing legislation. Maybe some of the items in the bill are needed to simplify business dealings, but DO NOT sacrifice our health and our environments health. If it stands up to scrutiny then ok, but stop trying to hide your plan. and STOP LYING.
