It is absolutely essential that the present boundaries of the Green Belt be kept as they are. Municipalities in Ontario have more than enough land outside of the Green Belt which can be developed, repurposed, or intensified. The Hamilton Port Authority lands are only one example of extensive wasted space which could be used much more effectively. There is no need to encroach on the Green Belt lands. Furthermore, the Green Belt is a significant feature of southern Ontario that makes this region so attractive for both business and residential. Businesses are more productive when both employers and employees have access to vibrant parks and green space. Clean water and soil is essential for the ongoing well being and productivity of this region. The Greenbelt has proven its value over the last fifteen years ... any erosion of it would have tragic long term consequences for this province.
