As a University of Toronto student and a future engineer, I oppose the proposed changes. They amount to an abdication by the provincial government of its responsibility to regulate harmful substances in the absence of a complete Chemicals Management Plan federally. Two years is a long time for facilities who are now meeting toxics thresholds to harm the environment and the health of Ontarians, and with the removal of the review requirement for existing plans, there is the potential for a major disaster that would cost far more than the $3 million saved to be remediated.
