Please register my opposition to the proposed Bill 66. I don't want any removal of the protection of the Planning Act and Provincial Policy Statements for significant built heritage resources and significant cultural landscapes anywhere in the province.
I've looked at the map of your riding and hope that you are aware of the efforts made throughout it to preserve the character of the region expressed through its built heritage in its small towns, villages, and along the rural roads and in its natural landscapes.
The websites of both Hastings County and the County of Lennnox and Addington promote these as attractions for tourism. For instance the Hastings County site offers "scenic villages, historic ghost towns, and clear lakes and streams." Similarly, the County of Lennnox and Addington promotes its "the natural beauty, unique history and unforgettable rural charm." Over the decades, towns have invested much effort to hold on to the heritage buildings that make the area distinct.
Built heritage resources and significant cultural landscapes are not just for tourists. Their more important role is to provide the markers of home for the people who make them part of their lives everyday. For many, they tell the stories of generations of local families.
The current protection of the Planning Act and Provincial Policy Statements for significant built heritage resources and significant cultural landscapes anywhere in the province needs to be maintained or strengthened.
I oppose any changes that diminish current protection.
