Business that propose to create at least 50 or 100 jobs, depending on the size of the municipality, will be in a good position to pressure the municipalities for an open-for-business planning by-laws. A open-for-business planning by-laws, and hence the business project named in the by-law, will be except from part(s) of several Act. These are the Planning Act, the Greenbelt Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Places to Grow Act. Some of the intended and unintended consequences of not applying these acts in their entirety could be disastrous. The Acts were created to protect people, animals, plants and the environment from various harms. For example, the Greenbelt Act enables the protection of some agricultural land and some environmentally sensitive land in Ontario by preventing urban development and sprawl on this land. All these protections are important. and should not be compromised. Please do not enact Bill 66.
