I repectfully request that the government extends the public review of Bill 66 and provides more information in a manner and format that is accessible and understandable to the average citizen of Ontario.
If I am understanding Bill 66 correctly, Ontario agencies such as MNRF and Source water protection will be replaced by municipal officials regarding development, planning and the environment in certain areas of Ontario. That environmental protection regulations may be suspended in areas based on economic drivers, oppose to the current practice of protection, sustainability and responsible planning using science, research, data, legislation, and experts.
I feel that Bill 66, particularly Schedule 10, removing the barriers (safeguards) to business development, focuses on short term dollars but neglects to look at the long term economic, environmental, social and health impacts.
I don't feel the government has studied the impacts properly for each municipality or region.
Economic development is possible under the current environmental acts.
I believe that this type of "slashing" of regulations will attract short term investment, and not the long- term investment in the province and the community.
Please conduct a full environmental assessment of the impacts of schedule 10 in Bill 66 will have on the people, environment and municipalities of all of Ontario.
Guelph, Barrie, and Orillia have concerns.
Please do not pass schedule 10, of Bill 66.
Thank you.
