As a forest manager, I believe activities we plan can have an impact on habitat and the implementation of special conditions to protect actual species at risk is important. I do, however, have a concern when restrictions are placed on the harvesting of the forest due to half-truths and limited facts.
Section 1.7 Knowledge Gaps of the Ontario Recovery Strategy Series for Gypsy Cuckoo Bumble Bee (2017) states “The current distribution and abundance of this species is uncertain in central and northern Ontario where there have been few recent surveys.” This statement alone can only provide for a listing as Data Deficient in central and northern Ontario.
