To whomever it may concern,
I am a high school student from Central Peel Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario, and am writing this letter to inform you on the concerns I have regarding the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, particularly in concerns to the Amendment 2.1. The Amendment 2.1 talks about the 2015 Ontario Climate Change Strategy, which was a plan to “reduce greenhouse gas emissions below 1990 levels by 37 per cent by 2030 and by 80 per cent by 2050”. This plan contributed towards having more “low-carbon communities, with the long-term goal of net-zero communities”, which has now been replaced with “reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030”. This new plan will not really help the environment, as it is not easy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions if new industries, factories, and newer developments are being created without taking into account its effect to the environment. Further, from the Growth Plan of the Greater Golden Horseshoe, more money will be spent on construction that is not needed, when that money could be used for implementing stricter sustainability regulations, specifically for the removal of greenhouse gas emissions. As global warming continues to affect the environment, those same effects will continue to influence human activity such as limiting natural resources, increasing levels of air pollution and the spread of bacterial infections due to the rising temperatures. I do hope you take the communal concerns into consideration and I hope this prompts you to understand the importance of the environment and its contributions to future generations.
Sincerely,
A concerned citizen
