I am Kevin Caldwell, a student studying at Central Peel Secondary School. I believe that Section 2.2.4 in Proposed Amendment 1 to the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2017 could be modified to decrease the carbon footprint of the greenbelt. The current population density of the greenbelt is 26 people per sq. km, which is sparse. The Proposed Amendment 1 of the Growth Plan recommends the construction of a transit system in the Greater Golden Horseshoe.
A transit system built in the greenbelt might run empty, incurring financial loss and polluting the Eco-friendly environment. It may not be helpful even to the public, as their timing needs may not align with bus schedules.
To solve this problem, the government can increase the influx of population by increasing the number of available jobs in the greenbelt. Until then, a carpooling or minibus system could be arranged by the government to support the daily commutation needs of the people living in the greenbelt.
