I support the proposed establishment of Provincially Significant Employment Zones to confer stronger protection on these lands. However, I have concerns about the potential loss of employment lands that don't have the PSEZ designation. They could be more vulnerable to conversion to mixed use or residential.
City of Hamilton Planning staff, in a report on Feb. 19, supported the introduction of PSEZs, with some modifications. For example, the staff suggested that PSEZs should be identified on a Schedule to the Growth Plan for the GGH to protect them for the long term. The staff also suggested four areas be added to the lands identified as PSEZs: Ancaster Business Park; Red Hill South and the eastern half of the Red Hill North Business Park; the West Hamilton Innovation District; and, Flamborough Business Park.
I agree with these recommendations pertaining to the PSEZ element of the proposed changes to the Growth Plan for the GGH.
