I live in the Niagara area where we have been steadily losing natural areas. We are not growing jobs, just residents. Becoming a bedroom community is not a good thing for a cohesive community or for the environment.
Developers are building sprawling subdivisions on our remaining greenspaces. They are damaging and isolating wetlands and they are cutting thousands of trees. We are also losing farmland.
Our cities here in Niagara are becoming more car-dependent due to sprawling development and this leads to isolation and lack of mobility for many of our older residents.
We are seeing many new subdivisions with expensive homes while at the same time, affordable housing, both owner-occupied and rental units, is becoming extremely scarce.
Please strengthen the natural heritage protections in the Growth Plan.
