If you are truly interested in protecting species at risk, then you must integrate with other agencies and rules that negatively impact species at risk, clean water, and clean air. The loosening of regulations that allow building on wetlands, for example, not only wipes out valuable habitat for species at risk, but also increases risk for flooding. Strict laws are needed to stop industry and even cities from polluting our lakes, rivers, and streams, AND to hold polluters accountable with consequences that actually change behaviour. Strict laws are needed to stop the annihilation of insects, such as bees and other pollinators, through use of pesticides known to also result in health consequences to humans. If you are truly serious about protecting species at risk, then don't begin by telling us how "lucky" we are to live in a province with clean water and air. One only needs to look at rates of cancer and respiratory disease in humans, particularly in industrial areas, to see that your position is wrong. Species at risk are just as vulnerable, if not more so, than we are. We are all connected. Real action requires an integrated approach that acknowledges the integrated connections of the natural world, and the insanity of what we are doing to destroy it. We need real action, not placation!
