COMMENTS BELOW FOR QUESTIONS WHERE I HAVE THOUGHTS:
4. What do you see as the most significant barriers to reducing phosphorus loadings to Lake Erie? Do you have any suggestions for overcoming these barriers?
GIVEN RECENT CHANGES IN EPA POLICY AND POWER IN THE UNITED STATES, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ONTARIO STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS WITH AGENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONS SOUTH OF THE BORDER.
5. As all sectors and communities within the Lake Erie basin need to take action to reduce phosphorus loads, do you have any recommendations on how to encourage collaborative action?
I THINK IT WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR ALL GROUPS TO USE CONSISTENT MESSAGING WHEN SPEAKING ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL IMPACTS OF IGNORING THE ISSUES. ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT MUST BEGIN TO MOVE QUICKLY - AS BUSINESSES WILL - TO ENSURE ANYONE USING THE LAKE RESOURCES (INCLUDING WATERSHED) UNDERSTAND THE SHORT AND LONG TERM COSTS OF IGNORING THE ISSUES. PERHAPS AN INFOGRAPHIC WOULD HELP CONSUMERS AND STAKEHOLDERS BOTH UNDERSTAND THE IMPACTS BOTH CURRENT AND FORECAST.
