I'm concerned about the safeguards in place for a social or economic benefit to Ontario permit. There are a few politicians and an independent expert you need to go through to get the permit but lobbying is a big concern of mine. How do we know the species will be protected when you make exceptions for economic reasons? How can people trust that personal financial gain won't conflict with the purpose of the act? There's nothing saying that the expert's opinion will affect the final decision. That's a big concern for me, and I would much prefer several experts would need to come to a consensus on whether or not the species would be adversely affected and if they decide the species would be, then no politician can allow the exemption to be made.
