Since the disaster at Fukushima, I am sure that all Ontarians have felt uneasy with regard to the proliferation of nuclear power plants. Not so much about the danger of a tsunami, though that s not impossible, but what to do if any of the nuclear plants in the province develop an emergency situation. I certainly have no idea what to do, what is likely to happen in the aftermath or what to do to protect myself and my family. I think that a rational approach to teach the population basic precautions to take in such an emergency should be high on the government's list of things to do, especially as we seem to be moving toward a nuclear-powered world in an attempt to reduce green-house gasses. And on that matter, until there is a way to store the radioactive materials that are the residue from producing nuclear energy, I think that the greatest emphasis on power generation should be placed in solar collection - the least polluting, least complex system of natural power available. But since we do have nuclear plants, let us learn any potentials on how best to survive a nuclear disaster by creating and publishing a comprehensive study and report.
