I live in the Yonge/Eglinton area of Toronto. We are living with what the OMB hath wrought. Serious over densification and overloading of infrastructure. I was pleased to see on the news that Mr. Ford has been quoted saying he wants to see a mix of housing - low rise, mid rise and high rise. I'm glad to hear that since I live in a low rise at the edge of the Yong/Eglinton hot spot. In spite of the city having zoned the street as a step down having a maximum of 4 stories, the OMB approved the construction of an 8 story rental apartment building. Maybe the OMB is confused about the meaning of low rise.
De novo hearings are won by the party with the most money. A city should be able to plan. If Mr. Ford wants to increase housing stock, he should do something about airbnb. I guess that wouldn't be an "open for business" thing to do.
I'll be watching Mr. Ford and the OMB.
