The Ontario Municipal Board is not a government body which is accountable to the electorate. Allowing developers to not have to wait for a decision from the local municipality on development proposals is analogous to filing directly with an appelate court without having a decision from a lower court.
The local MPP needs to be directly accountable for development decisions if the provincial government is going to override municipal decisions on planning, or not even wait for a decision from municipal government. The Ontario Municipal Board creates a burden on local property taxpayers with respect to having to hire lawyers and not being able to hold an elected official to account for the final decision.
