I believe that the word “Conservation” should be included in the Ministry responsible for the Conservation Authorities. The work done by CA’s would be poorly reflected upon if lost in the name of the Ministry.
I have no issues with transparency. It is, however, unfortunate that all CA’s are painted with a bad brush as a result of the behaviour of one CA.
The requirements set out appear to be consistent with what our CA is doing. We receive watershed planning, floodplain mapping and development guidance, we have MOA’s for services such as septic, etc. Our model provides member municipalities with boots on the ground and shared costs for services which would otherwise be a heavy burden on tax payers at the municipal level. Partnership with the SNC has been beneficial to members and legislative changes supporting encouragement of those partnerships will play a strong role in cost effective decision making.
Please keep Conservation Authorities in the foreground when considering changes. Our South Nation CA has been a proactive and productive service provider to its member. As a former Mayor, and ten years of municipal leadership, I see the benefits of our CA.
