I strongly opposes proposed changes to Ontario’s Endangered Species Act (ESA), as brought forward in Schedule 5 of Bill 108. The changes would remove essential legal protections for species at risk and for the habitats that sustain them. At a time when the wide-spread monitoring is providing data to inform scientific decisions to make the protection of plant and animal species more accurate, Section 5 is a mistake and should be removed in its entirety.
