I believe that the proposed changes would result in devastating and irreversible damage to our environment and consequently to the future of all aspects of our region. Preserving healthy natural environments is critical to the welfare of the ourselves and our children and grandchildren, as well as both our resources and our regional and national identities. The Endangered Species Act and policies based on scientific evidence are essential to maintaining the natural health of our region to ensure there is potential for growth and success in the future. Scientific experts should be heard and consulted when making decisions regarding species-at-risk and businesses should not be enabled to violate our natural world in the name of economic development. Natural preservation and economic growth must co-exist in order for either to be sustainable. I believe that the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act cannot move ahead if this critical balance is to exist.
