The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is Ontario’s largest non-profit, conservation-based organization, with over 100,000 members, supporters, and subscribers, and 740 member clubs. We have reviewed the proposed changes to the Environmental Assessment Act and provide the following general comments for consideration.
The Environmental Assessment Act provides the public with an important opportunity to comment on projects that might impact them in some way. The OFAH is generally supportive of the proposed changes as a means of removing unnecessary administrative duplication and to better coordinate the level of assessment with the level of risk posed by a project. In our interpretation, these changes have the potential to deliver the same results through a more efficient and streamlined process. However, our support is contingent on assurances that neither environmental protections nor public consultation opportunities will be reduced or lost.
We look forward to reviewing prescribed regulations related to these changes in the future. Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
