I am concerned that the proposed changes, in addition to the changes in LPAT to make it more developer-oriented will remove the few impediments we have to the wholesale demolition of our built and natural heritage. Once a historic structure is gone it will never come back.
Tourism thrives on interesting destinations, and historic structures, streetscapes and landscapes provide this interest. No one wants to see hectares of bland vinyl-sided tract housing or unimaginative commercial buildings.
Communities and their elected representatives know best. Leave them the minimal amount of power they now hold.
