The value of our cultural heritage and its contribution to Ontario’s social and economic goals is very important to our children, all past and future generations and me.
I am concerned that Bill 108 will further discourage heritage protection and conservation while doing nothing to improve or streamline the designation process.
I understand the development industry would want to invest and build quickly to make money, but often using cheap materials constructing boxy buildings lacking charm. Land is precious and it is important to build/re-build what is needed and important to communities! The industry needs to respect that and work with the government. Do the research, get the feedback and realize the importance of keeping cities beautiful!
Local councils should still have the last word on
a) What constitutes a cultural heritage property of value to the community, and
b) The recognition and protection of that resource
This, in no way, would hinder the development industry from building safe and affordable housing!
