After reading material on Bill 108, first I am not convinced that it will actually increase affordable housing, and will actually create other issues through it's far reaching proposed changes in land use and revenue streaming.

I am primarily concerned with how this will ultimately affect the generation of new city parks. Parks are essential to people living in the city, especially those that live in apartments and condo (which is becoming the new norm). Additionally, parks support wildlife in our city, from birds passing through during migration to insects and small mammals. Trees are the lungs of the city. Parks are essential to a happy and healthy city. I am concerned that this Bill will result in the construction of smaller, non-functional parks that are merely a nod from developers with a patch of grass labelled "park". If given the choice, no developer will leave a piece of ground to be covered with grass and trees when they can construct additional revenue generating property to rent, lease or sell. Common sense tells us that governments must mandate a certain amount of land in cities must be reserved for green space, otherwise it will be a concrete jungle. This Bill definitely moves us towards that concrete jungle and I do not support it in it's current form.
