My biggest concern with Schedule 12 is the reduced timeline for consideration of development proposals.
90 days does not allow enough time for good quality developments to be achieved in all cases.
Surely we do not want to build shabby homes, nor to create dysfunctional neighbourhoods.
It does not allow enough time for contentious or flawed proposals to be resolved through meetings between residents, developers and municipal staff.
Currently my municipality stages both informal and formal public meetings of Council. The informal public meeting is very important. It is a way for developers to learn of issues they were not aware of, and for those to be addressed, usually by arranging other consultations.
The goal of this bill should not just be MORE homes, it should be more GOOD homes.
