To improve the moose management in the province of Ontario it is critical to put aside our personal emotions and wants in regards to hunting moose. We must understand that managing moose effectively and now, will ensure plenty of hunting opportunities in the future. The following are my personal recommendations that I strongly believe will significantly improve the overall population of moose in the province of Ontario.
1. Eliminate the harvest of calf moose
2. Significantly reduce the quantity of cow moose tags being allocated
3. Slightly reduce the current quantity of bull moose tags being allocated
4. Implement a random lottery system for tag allocations (similar to LEH in BC)
5. Establish 1 combined season for each wmu where any legal weapon may be used for the hunt to simplify tag allocation and eliminate the requirement to apply for a bow specific tag
