As a resident of Northern in areas where Caribou exist, as such I am intimately aware of the challenges/complexities that exist when managing for conflicting objectives on a forested landscape. Due to those challenges and complexities a FMP takes three years to write and implement. Let me re-iterate that, it takes three years for one forest. A two year extension is a gross under-estimation on behalf of the government to consult, evaluate, research and implement a province wide plan.
To re-iterate, I support the 2 year extension but strongly recommend it be at least 5 years. I strongly support the creation of a multi-stakeholder advisory committee (but ensure northern Ontario communities, constituents and businesses are strongly represented. I also would like to see the extension implemented immediately following the review period to ensure continuity of the current Section 55 Regulation.
On a personal note, rushing through ill advised policy that would do nothing but have negative effects on forestry in northern Ontario and would very likely result in the loss of my job. I pay taxes every year and I support my family and my community with this job.
Thank you for your time and the opportunity to comment on this very important subject.
