Fast tracking requirements of development proposals in municipalities reduces opportunities for a democratic discussion and a proper environmental evaluation. "Minor" changes to streamline development repeats the same problems.
When diverting solar panels from farm land, add them to all new roofs.
"Stronger protection from major facilities" should not involve reduction of pollution laws. Pollution laws must be increased, not decreased.
Affordable housing must never be segregated from the community. All new houses should be made fully accessable and affordable. Please end the segregation of poor people and persons with disabilities by phasing out institutions and "projects". Instead, work with people who actually have disabilities to create a fully inclusive Ontario.
Airports should not be built in areas in which they have a large impact on birds and bats.
While not listed in the Places to Grow plan, all municipalities (and their Animal Services) should have to have a 24/7 contract with a licensed wildlife rehabilitation centre to provide rescue, rehabilitation, release, and education regarding wildlife.
2.1 I agree that wetlands and woodlands should not be built on. Please do not exempt the Islands in Lake Huron, and the St Mary's River. Islands often have unique biodiversity.
There are no ways to demonstrate no negative impacts on wetland and woodland building. Wetlands and woodlands should be given full protection.
2.1.6, 2.1.7, 2.1.8 Provincial and federal resources most often side with developers. Development on fish habitat and habitat of at risk species should not be allowed. Animals do not know boundaries, so nearby habitat should be protected too.
2.1.10 All municipalities should be required to protect wetlands. They prevent drought and flooding.
Natural spaces absolutely should be protected. Protection of trees also protects our cities.
Accessability must be mandated in all new city planning and housing developments. Please work with disabled persons to create these Accessability laws.
Green and accessable transit must be in all municipalities.
Promotion of building on brownfield and other already built up areas are a great way to save trees and recycle land.
Agricultural land must be protected in order to feed new and current communities.
"Territory Without Municipal Organization" is usually a way to describe Indigenous reserves. Please work with Indigenous people to give funding so these areas can have the same vital infrastructure (like clean water) as the rest of the province.
Drilling petroleum, mining tailings, and fracking destroy homes, habitat, and farms. These activities should not be permitted.
2.4 Our climate is in crisis. We can not afford to extract more fossil fuels.
Rivers absolutely should be protected from development. Their natural flow should be allowed to run (no new dams, no burying under pipes, or rerouting of natural waterways). No building should be in a flood zone.
