My husband and I understand that aggregates are necessary. However, we believe that environment, agricultural lands, water resources, residential areas, parklands and tourism all need to be protected to the fullest extent.
Big businesses such as large aggregate companies should not be given full reign to self-regulate or self-monitor, this should most certainly be governed and policed by our government.
We are surrounded by existing pits and we understand the implications and they are not always ideal. People must continue to have the assurity that all regulations and by-laws are being met.
As for the Aggregate fees not being increased, we ask ourselves why? Why, not? Big aggregates should be subject to the same increases as everyone else.
