The requirements to push cities to fast track developments such as housing ignore the need to additional services requires to create complete communities. Just forcing the increase in supply of housing does not account for the need for green space, schools, clinic, or child care facilities in communities to name only a few.
The Province should be working in conjunction with municipalities to ensure complete communities are being developed and now just housing for the sake of increasing numbers. There are many communities in Toronto for example that the supply of housing is not the issue but the lack of services is a glaring gap. The need to balance these priorities and spread development all along our transit lines does not seem to be fully integrated in the proposed changes.
Fast tracking development is not the only answer, we need more holistic approaches to solving our housing crisis and it will require more collaboration between all orders of government.
