Good morning,
I have spent the last year researching the effects of a proposed Darien/Rankin quarry on Lake Lauzon, located in Algoma Mills, in Northern Ontario.
Historically the lake where I have lived for 25 years, was contaminated by uranium mine tailings from nearby Pronto Mine. Most of the site drains a provincially significant wetland into Trudel Creek, then Lake Lauzon and finally into Lake Huron. Amick Consultants Archaeological Assessment Stage 1 and 2 is seriously flawed and incomplete. The company has a terrible reputation in Simcoe County, and for good reason.
This site is located on an old uranium mining claim only 400 metres north of the lake where we get our drinking water, yet the Hydro G report shows no uranium at the site. The consultation process has been filled with obstructionist tactics by the proponent. Maps have been altered, documents made to confuse and the health and safety of our drinking water disregarded. University researchers have discovered the densest known population of Blandings Turtles in North America thriving within the site, yet the proponent dismisses our concern for the importance and health of this important wetland.
As you can see, easing restrictions on the aggregate permitting process will only further endanger our environment. I am thus opposed to Bill 132.
