It is all well and fine to create 'short cuts', in an attempt to boost provincial productivity, but when these amendments have the potential to create long term negative effects, then some sober thought needs to be brought to this process. I have little faith in relying upon business and industry to safeguard those things that the general public find valuable: clean air, potable water, and a decent environment in which to conduct our daily lives. Business and industry work upon one aim only, that of profit. Little regard is given to the consequences of their actions that affect those who are not closely involved in their activities. As a provincial government, a major part of your mandate is to look after the interests of all the citizens of Ontario, not just of those who will profit from these changes. I see very few reclaimed quarries; very few cleaned up industrial sites; very little concern for waste and pollution, as long as profit is involved. We need stronger controls, not weakened ones as you are proposing. As a lifelong citizen of Ontario, I protest against these changes.
