Long-term, the goal should be to phase out all permits to bottle water in the province.
This industry has no reason to exist. Consumer behaviour can change. No one needs bottled water.
I am concerned that the industry is depleting the water table in Ontario. This could have serious implications in future. Its is a risk we would be foolish to take - especially with the climate crisis creating an uncertain future for us all.
Phasing out the permits would also eliminate the billions of plastic bottles produced by the industry. In Ontario alone, Nestle produces 3 billion plastic bottles a year. This is entirely unnecessary garbage that will not biodegrade and can only go to landfill.
We can do better.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
