I commend the Ontario government for planning to extend the moratorium on water taking permits for companies like Nestle. There must be better studies on long term groundwater impacts, and impacts on communities that depend on this water. Ontario is rapidly polluting or selling off its once plentiful fresh water supplies. It costs municipalities dearly to clean Great Lakes water for drinking, as one example. Also, these companies bottle and sell water in plastics that contain chemicals that are suspected of causing health damage. They are not biodegradable, and cost municipalities millions of $ to collect for recycling, while the capture rate in collection programs is only 50%, so many bottles end up in our environment. The government must ban single use plastics.
