I fully support this extension to the moratorium on water-taking.
But a moratorium is a temporary measure. A more robust long-term strategy needs to be in place that is in the interest of our country. I would suggest:
a] discontinue the practice of essentially giving away our water for free [$500 for millions of litres of water is FREE] to bottling companies who resell our water to us in plastic bottles at an enormous premium. This is foolhardy.
b] begin discouraging the bottling of water, i.e. water may be sold if it must be sold, but then sold for a reasonable price, not for a foolhardy price and not for bottling purposes. Plastic waste is quickly accumulating around the world, and companies that bottle water appear to have little interest in recovering all the plastic they produce.
