Comment
The proposal concerns me as it does not appear to have run its due diligence with the appropriate professional organizations that currently engage in the process of construction for buildings as stipulated in our Building Code.
The Architect's Act and the Building Code Act work in tandem towards public safety, as well as acknowledge that building construction is far more than construction, but a cultural act.
We occasionally see well-meaning government initiatives that erode, or attempt to erode the full authority of the Architect's Act, which is the thorough and representative legislation for our self-governing profession.
Please ensure that any contemplated changes to our system have full engagement with the Ontario Association of Architects and the Association for Professional Engineers of Ontario.
Any effort to improve the education and/or registration of Building Officials and Building Reviewers operating within municipalities should do so within the context of the current governance of the Professional associations noted above.
