Access to clean water is a basic human right. Clean water is an essential public asset and not a commodity that is bought and sold by the private sector. In addition, the aggregate industry should not be allowed to extract water within the aquifer levels that is being used for supplying water to towns and cities. Nor should the gravel industry be allowed extract new aggregate supplies from below the water table in SW Ontario. The population growth of urban centres in SW Ontario surrounding the Golden Horseshoe requires additional supplies of clean water and this must take higher priority.
