I am quite glad with the success of the re-introduction of elk in the Algoma region. Being from
southern Ontario originally, I understand the social pressures that can arise from agricultural
areas whenever natural resources are involved. I hope that one day many of the people in Sault Ste
Marie, Iron Bridge, and the surrounding area come to respect the elk and learn to coexist
peacefully. I believe education about the elk delivered to the population may be the key in
changing the mind set of some minds who may have a negative view on the subject. The more people
understand about the elk and ecology in general, the more likely they will respect the elk, and in
turn protect and become good stewards of the elk. Just like any other truly magnificent wildlife
species in Ontario, I hope that one day the elk will be respected and become a positive symbol
rather than a burden. Everything takes time though!  

One thing I may add would be additional smaller sub herds spread out in areas without
agricultural/social pressure is much better than a large herd concentrated in one area.
