This moratorium is a step in the right direction. I was happy to read the Government is thinking of expanding this to Oct. 2020. With that being said, an outright prohibition is needed and would be the most effective thing. Nestle is a multi-billion dollar company, with assets and resources around the world. To say that Ontario's fresh water supply is important would be an understatement. It is crucial to survival. Allowing Nestle and other for-profit companies to take water and sell it back to Ontario residents at an increased cost is despicable. Further, as climate change progresses, permitting large for-profit companies to take water for the purposes of profit is unsustainable.
I agree with the Government's proposal to extend the moratorium to prohibit new or extended groundwater takings until October 2020. Please consider a complete prohibition. This would be more sustainable in the long-term.

I strongly urge the Government to consider the above. Furthermore, perhaps in addition to prohibiting big for-profit companies from taking water to increase their revenue, the Government could consider working further with the Federal Government and First Nations in Northern Ontario to ensure that indigenous peoples on reserves have access to clean water (not from water bottles, and without boil water advisories).
