There is an extreme lack of on-line detail about the proposal to extend leases in the park. The only on-line supporting material is the 2010 ERO posting and its 2017 update. To force those who wish to comment substantively to call the office to find out if more info is available, and to then have to request a copy, is a process of obfuscation.

Notwithstanding the above, I am opposed to any extension of leases in Rondeau Prov Park. I strongly recommend that the ministry exercise its right to buy back leases, and not to renew any lease at its expiry or before.

I strongly oppose the long-term occupation of cottage lots in Rondeau Provincial Park. Whether the government plans to provide long-term lease extensions or, worse, to sell the lots to cottagers, either option is inappropriate, and contrary to provincial law and policy.

Rondeau provides refuge for more than 80 species at risk (the highest found in any Ontario Provincial Park) and more than 300 significant plant species. The cottages and associated activities are harming the park’s rare and endangered wildlife and vulnerable forest, wetland, dune and savannah ecosystems.

The need to put nature first in this small and extremely biodiverse Provincial Park could not be more obvious. Private cottages are demonstrably incompatible with this goal. We have far too little left of our natural habitats and ecosystems.
