Teaching cyclists, drivers and pedestrians the rules of the road from a young age is very important. While my community has started to put in some bike lanes they are either not used or not used properly. Motorists also seem confused about where cyclists are supposed to be on the road ways including when passing parked cars.
My other concern comes from snow removal. At this time of year snow is very much a part of our lives. There are many cyclists who continue to use our roads in the winter months. Many times the snow has not been removed from the bike lanes or worse dumped into the bike lanes making travel difficult if not dangerous.
It is also important that the government focus on the attitude that those who ride bikes to work or as their main mode transportation do not do so because they are of little means. They are of all walks of life, choosing this way of transportation for many different reasons, including speed, ease and enjoyment.
Thank you for creating these initiatives to promote cycling and making it safer to do so in Ontario. The more safe opportunities we as citizens have to be healthy in our everyday lives the better.
