Thank you for the opportunity to comment on #CycleON: Action Plan 2.0. As a participating stakeholder in recent consultations arranged by the Share the Road Cycling Coalition, we would like to echo the comments the STR Coalition has provided to this Environmental Registry.

Some additional comments from our organization:

When releasing infrastructure funding, we ask that the MTO give more consideration to the rural aspect of many communities applying for funds and perhaps consider a rural component to the funding opportunities. [i.e separate allocations of funding for rural projects].

We also ask that MTO promote these funding opportunities through various channels and to ensure Ontario's 36 Public Health Units - as stakeholders - be included in this circulation. Public Health staff work closely with their municipalities and community groups to improve cycling infrastructure and supports so this extra communication would increase awareness of the availability of funds.

Re: Improve content about motorist-cyclist interactions in Beginner Driver Education.

It should be noted that BDEs don't all offer the same curriculum even though all new drivers take the exact same written test. In addition to improving content about motorist-cyclist interactions, ensure that this content is required by all BDE programs.

Re: Include cycling infrastructure in provincial highway construction projects using the province-wide cycling network.

Prior to construction projects, when conducting stakeholder consultations, consideration being more receptive to the requests of the local cycling community.

When doing any public awareness, use the MTO's own CentreLine newsletter as a channel to reach all licensed drivers.
