Water is essential for life. It should be not be regarded like a typical product open for business and profits. I am writing to request the following:
1. I urge the current Provincial Government to extend the moratorium on water bottling permits. The community that is directly impacted by water sources should be in control of that source. It is not wise to over-ride a community's needs in favour of a water bottling company.
2. The government should also conduct a thorough environmental assessment surrounding the removal of water for the purpose of bottling the water for sale. It is important to fully understand all the implications to the community and the wild life that depends on the water source.
3. Initiate a phase-out of all water bottling permits. Plastic waste is choking our waters all over the world. It is no longer smart to pursue the bottling of water in plastic bottles.
