As a family member who spent several childhood summers on the shores of Lake Erie at Rondeau Park, I am deeply saddened that my Canadian family may lose their cottage due to this lease increase. The cottage in Rondeau is where my parents took myself and my siblings as we were growing up. We learned to swim, sail, fish and enjoy the beautiful Canadian outdoors. This was our place we shared many family memories.
This cottage is now entering it's third generation of providing a retreat on the shores Lake Erie. My closest cousin, Barb, who inherited the cottage from her parents, died of breast cancer just a few years ago. Now her daughters have this place to go and share their memories of their mother, and make new memories with their own children.
The thought of this property being lost due to a financial burden caused by the government is heartbreaking, and more importantly, fiscally irresponsible.
If there are no cottages then how will commerce be drawn to the area? For so many years this has been a place to be with family and friends, enjoying the beauty of Canada.
Please don't take that away from future generations.
Thank you.
