Your Forest Sector Strategy aspires to double the amount of logging in Ontario from 15 million to 30 million cubic metres of wood per year. There are no commitments to set aside more forests to support wildlife conservation. We need the preservation of forests to help mitigate climate change. The Federal Government has committed to setting aside 25% of Canada's natural areas by 2025 and 30% by 2030. We need the Boreal Forest to protect biodiversity, to save animals such as the Woodland Caribou, to protect North America's songbird nursery (referred to as the 'Songbird Nursery' because it is the place where many songbirds breed), to sequester carbon, to preserve all of the ecological services it provides, to give us options for our future and the future of many other living creatures. The preservation of the Boreal Forest matters in many ways. The Boreal Forest should not be sacrificed for corporate gain. Without the forests we now have on Earth, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would be much higher than its current level. The Boreal Forest in Ontario is part of the largest forest remaining on Earth. It is a legacy for all Humanity.
