The Boreal Forest is the largest intact forest on the planet which acts as a carbon shield, capturing and storing an enormous amount of carbon that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. We need to conserve it, not open it up for more development.
While reading this, consider that caribou and likely other species at-risk are very sensitive to disturbance, incl road building. The strategy talks about the benefits of building roads but not the negative impacts.
Part of the argument is that we need more paper products to be sustainable alternatives to single use plastics, but there is no acknowledgment that resources could also be put towards creating a more circular economy and better use of recycled paper products.
There are a lot of comments about ONs forestry industry being sustainable that there's room to grow the industry significantly, but there's no evidence if this.
