Bear numbers are too high and they compete with threatened and endangered species for habitat and for food. Responsible bear hunting will address this problem and help sustain healthy wildlife populations. Additional hunting discourages bear-human contact as bears will learn to avoid people. This will result in greater public safety and a reduction of nuisance bear issues.
Many Canadians rely on game meat to feed their families. This is especially true for First Nations.
