Killing an animal for recreation is absolutely appalling. Not only does it suggest that non-human beings have no value in and of themselves, but it also sends a clear message to future generations that killing a fellow living being is acceptable. How can we possibly raise compassionate and empathic children who care for each other and who care for the wellbeing of our planet, if we encourage and permit something as awful as shooting bears for pleasure. I urge the province to stop the spring bear hunt and model how we can coexist with wildlife rather than kill them.
