While the remoteness of Wabakimi, Kopka and Whitesand are integral to the wilderness nature of these parks, I feel there is an opportunity to provide three established campgrounds in these parks to enhance their appeal and accessibility. I suggest that park zoning include areas designated for such development. The three sites I propose are: Wabakimi - N50.18210 W90.49542 Kopka - N50.01039 W89.14011 Whitesand - N50.30764 W88.86638 These locations are all accessible by road, located on lakes and provide canoeing access to Wabakimi Provincial Park. Some small expansion of the park boundaries around these sites should be contemplated to protect the campgrounds from encroaching clear cutting operations. The campgrounds could be developed through public/private/first nations co-operation to provide local tourism business opportunities. These campgrounds would appeal to those people who cannot afford the fly-in lodge options and may attract more people to the regions. I also feel that zoning within the parks should make an effort to provide areas where motorized recreation is limited or prohibited to maintain the wilderness nature of popular canoeing areas.
