Every new development should still be provincially required to allocate 20% of any development lot to green space (Community Benefit). My understanding is that under Ford this was reduced to 5% and that there is an option for cash-in-lieu.
My comment is that cash-in-lieu should not be an option. New developments MUST include green space for the benefit of everyone in our city. Without the green space our city will just turn into a smog city like others in the world that had government and planners with no vision and no care for the future.
The implications on mental and physical health will cost far more on our Health care system than making green space a mandatory requirement for developers.
Cash-in-lieu of green space should not be an option. Green space should become green space.
